Baroque from A to Z exhibition at the Palais Lascaris - 2023
From February 4, 2023 to January 15, 2024, the Musée du Palais Lascaris presents the exhibition "Le Baroque de A à Z, La Chambre des Merveilles". Works by artist Sylvie T. featuring over 50 drawings, engravings, palimpsests, sketchbooks and other surprises by the artist.
The city of Nice and the Musée Lascaris team now wish to affirm and enhance the Baroque identity and history of the Palais Lascaris, an aristocratic residence and jewel of Nice's civil Baroque, by working on the permanent tour and designing exhibitions that showcase the architecture and decor. The museum regularly invites artists to work on the Palais, with the aim of inviting contemporary practice to weave links with the listed building and the collections it houses.
To mark the 30th anniversary of Sylvie T.'s gallery, a collaboration with the Nice-based illustrator came naturally. Over the course of a season, in autumn 2022, the artist immersed herself in the museum's daily life, sketching it with her meticulous brushstrokes. Using Indian ink and watercolour, she captured the atmosphere of the place, creating an in-situ fresco and an exhibition. Sylvie T. is also presenting her Chambre des Merveilles, a cabinet of curiosities as found in 15th and 16th century residences.
This exhibition, "Baroque from A to Z. La Chambre des Merveilles par Sylvie T", takes an artistic look at details of the architecture of the Palais Lascaris and offers an introduction to the Baroque movement that resonates in the museum, attempting to give the public the keys to understanding this major artistic period.
